Why does my avatar sometimes look like a ghost?

When an avatar appears like a ghost (translucent), that avatar will not block or provide a draft benefit to others. This happens when:

Your speed is below 10kph to avoid blocking others.
In the final 10 seconds of the countdown before an activity starts.
In the first 10 seconds of an activity to help you jockey for a position.
You are within 50 meters of being lapped by the leader.
You brake hard to prevent blocking others.
