What is the Stamina Wheel and how does it work?

Master Stamina & Virtual Gears. With our Stamina Wheel™, everyone competes on a level playing field, including those on smart trainers, simple trainers w/Smashometer™, and stationary bikes w/Smashometer.

When you join most Activities, you will be greeted with our Stamina Wheel on screen, to the upper right of your rider's avatar. The first time you enter an activity, you may see tutorials pop up (How to Move Physically, Master Virtual Gears, Maximize Your Stamina). You can also revisit any tutorials on the Home Screen or under the Help "?" button in the upper right of most screens.

Start pedaling faster to increase your RPMs and, if Auto Shift is On (default), you will see your gear number increase inside the Stamina Wheel, if you are using the Smashometer. Higher gears boost power (blue area), but drain stamina (green area) faster.

For smart-trainer users, with virtual shifting you will feel the resistance change in your trainer when you change gears either from the CoApp or on your keyboard (R & F keys). Enjoy the electronic "virtual shifting" experience the game provides. There is no need to buy a separate device to shift gears as it is built into the game. In order to experience virtual shifting in game with the smart trainer, you have to make sure its resistance module is paired, as well. You can also watch the Stamina Wheel gearing change while you are using your smart trainer. COMING SOON!  Auto Shifting by RPM for smart trainers and different gearing (cassette) configurations.

In Workouts, you will not see a Stamina Wheel as it is meant to gamify the riding but, for Workouts, you are just trying to get the physical benefits.

Stamina Wheel Tips:

  • With Auto Shift On (default), pedal faster to increase your RPMs (in your gauge next to the speed) and Gears (the number in the center of the Stamina Wheel) and watch your Power increase as your Stamina (reserves) decreases (Auto Shift can be toggled On/Off in either your Profile or the Info (loading) page as you join an activity > Assists, upper right corner).  Auto Shift will also downshift to the appropriate gear for drafting, when On. However, if you are in the attack RPM range, this downshifting will not occur, allowing you to attack from the drafting position.
  • If you reach and maintain (for your preset time) your preset RPM High, your gear automatically shifts up by one (1) (configurable in Profile or Info page > Assists). In the gauge, when you see the orange part of the bar along the top, you have reached your High RPM shift range.
  • If you reach and maintain (for your preset time) your preset Attack RPM, your gear automatically shifts up by five (5) (configurable). In the gauge, when you see the red part of the bar along the top, you have reached your Attack RPM shift range.
  • If you go below your preset RPM Low, you will shift down (1) gear.
  • If you stop pedaling for 2.5 seconds, your gear resets to the default gear, five (5). (this is also configurable under Gear Reset Seconds).
  • Press the "R" key to shift up and the "F" key to shift down, if you want to change gears manually (configurable). You can also use the Companion App (CoApp) to shift up and down.
  • The gear number changes colors (orange or red) to indicate if you're within shifting ranges.
  • The red area on the wheel is called the Stamina Burn Rate; keep the burn rate to none or as little as possible.  You may see the red grow in fast sprints at the end of a race, or in an attack. Higher gears boost power but drain Stamina faster.  Burn rate is defined as how much stamina you will burn in the next 10 seconds if you maintain your current effort.
  • You may notice a very subtle visual cue in the form of a red hue on the sides of the screen if you are about to crash.
  • Shift to a higher gear at or before 120 RPM, as just pedaling faster won't help you.
  • There is an orange indicator line on the Stamina Wheel showing the power necessary to maintain the current velocity.  This is helpful in any activity, such as a ride, where you want to maintain a consistent power.  In most rides, the orange line is the power necessary for the rider and, in Paced Rides, the orange line is the power necessary to maintain the current velocity for the Leader.  In Workouts, the orange line is either the target "feel," heart rate, or power (watts) necessary to maintain the current velocity, depending on your device type.
  • Some power-ups will help to regenerate your Stamina.
  • In your Profile or Settings (under Assists), play around with different shifting configurations to find the one that suits you best.

The Gauge is in the center at the bottom of your screen. Shift range is indicated in the bar along the top of the gauge.  It shows where automatic shifting will occur (configurable). The orange shift range will shift one (1) gear at a time (at your preset RPM High) and the red shift range will shift five (5) gears at a time (at your preset Attack Shift Increment)
