What permissions do I need to grant (Bluetooth, Motion & Fitness, Camera, Microphone)?

To make sure Smash Your Fitness runs smoothly, you’ll be asked to grant certain permissions on your device. These permissions allow the app to detect your movement, connect to equipment, and enable optional features like social sharing or voice control.

Here’s what each permission does:

  • Bluetooth

    • Needed to connect to external devices such as smartwatches (Apple Watch, WearOS), the Smashometer, or BLE FTMS-enabled equipment like treadmills, bikes, rowers, and ellipticals.

    • Without Bluetooth, Smash can still use your phone’s built-in sensors, but you won’t be able to connect additional devices.

  • Motion & Fitness (or Physical Activity)

    • On iOS, this permission is called Motion & Fitness. On Android, it’s usually Physical Activity.

    • This gives the app access to your phone’s built-in motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) so it can detect steps, jumps, or other body movements.

    • Without this permission, Smash won’t be able to track your movement directly from your phone.

  • Camera

    • Optional, but used if you want to capture gameplay moments or use the in-app camera toggle for social sharing.

    • Having camera access lets you take selfies, record clips, or capture live reactions while playing.

  • Microphone

    • Required if you want to use voice control.

    • The microphone lets you issue commands (like lane changes or in-game shortcuts) without using your hands.

    • If you’re in a noisy environment, you can disable this — all games have manual and gesture-based alternatives.

✅ Bottom Line

To get the full Smash Your Fitness experience, you’ll need to enable Bluetooth and Motion & Fitness/Physical Activity. The Camera and Microphone permissions are optional but recommended if you want to take advantage of social sharing and voice control features.
